Republic of Congo
The Fargo Rotary Club, in collaboration with the three other Fargo-Moorhead Rotary Clubs and the Rotary Club Kinshasa - Binza (Democratic Republic of Congo), will assist disabled children and youth in Kinshasa, Congo. The children have lower limb disabilities caused by polio, other debilitating diseases, or accidents. Often times the children are neglected and relegated to walking on "all fours" or with great awkwardness and difficulty. The project will fund the purchase of brace-crafting materials by StandProud, a non-government organization operating six brace-crafting facilities around the country. The custom-fitted braces are made from local materials and cost $100 each. The orthopaedic devices will restore mobility and dignity to approximately 160 youth.
